Plasma Surface Treatment & Four-gun Cold Glue Spraying Solution for Carton Folder Gluer

Printing and packaging manufacturers constantly struggle with poor adhesion issues on UV-coated, laminated and metallized carton boards. Conventional cold glue spraying often leads to unstable bonding, especially when glue is applied directly onto low-surface-energy substrates. This live production case adopts dual plasma nozzles matched with four-gun cold glue spraying equipment. As carton blanks are conveyed along the folder gluer, the plasma unit activates the carton surface in advance. It breaks surface molecular inertia, raises surface tension and eliminates barrier effects brought by film lamination and UV varnish. After plasma treatment, water-based cold glue can firmly attach to packaging surfaces without delamination after folding.

The four-gun cold glue spray system supports segmented programmable glue tracks. Operators set independent glue start and stop positions via touchscreen, enabling intermittent glue application as required. Compared with traditional roller gluing, targeted spraying greatly cuts glue consumption and avoids common defects such as glue overflow, paper staining and messy glue trails. The system runs synchronously with line speed up to 43 m/min, reaching an output of 6,120 cartons per hour.

The integrated setup fits perfectly on existing folder gluers without major mechanical modification. It handles cosmetic boxes, food packaging and various coated color boxes stably during long-term continuous operation. Many printing plants face frequent customer complaints about open boxes after delivery; this combined process effectively reduces reject rates.
