Plasma sterilization has emerged as a revolutionary approach for medical device manufacturing, offering effective sterilization without toxic residues or harmful byproducts. Unlike EtO and formaldehyde which can leave toxic residues, hydrogen peroxide gas plasma sterilization breaks down into harmless water and oxygen.
The low-temperature plasma process requires less energy to operate, contributing to lower operational costs. It protects both patients and healthcare staff—the plasma step breaks down leftover hydrogen peroxide quickly, releasing less vapor when equipment is opened.

The indirect cold atmospheric plasma-aerosol (CAP-A) method offers particular promise for thermolabile medical devices, inactivating microorganisms, viruses, yeasts, and biofilms. Plasma-based treatment avoids surface damage associated with conventional methods using heat, chemicals, or radiation.
